Charity's Ball 2008By Terry Devlin Charity's Ball, a fun event and successful fundraiser for agency...and thanks to those staff who volunteered to help! It was an evening of special honorees combined with lots of fun and support as CORA Services celebrated its 37th anniversary at Charity's Ball on Saturday, October 18 at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. The event raised $40,000 to support its comprehensive array of educational, counseling and referral services. It was an extraordinary event, with the theme "Children are the Heart of the Matter," as CORA Services presented the first CORA Champion for Children Award to Mayor Michael A. Nutter for his commitment to helping children and their families throughout Philadelphia. The CORA Services Award is presented annually to business and community leaders for their work and contributions toward the growth and enrichment of local children and families. The 2008 recipients were Anthony J. Conti of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP and CORA Services Board Member John Mitkus of GVA Smith Mack. The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts proved to be the perfect venue for 180 guests to socialize, admire artwork, enjoy delicious cuisine and cocktails and dance to the sounds of the B Street Band, all to benefit CORA Services. The Awards Ceremony was led by Master of Ceremonies Monica Malpass of Action News and awards were presented by Dr. Anthony Chunn, president and CEO, CORA Services; Jim Mullan, CORA Services Board Chair; and event chair Terry D'Alessandro of Sovereign Bank. "Charity's Ball is really about the children that CORA Services helps every day," said Chunn. "This event helps to ensure that we can continue to serve the families that need it. We are very grateful to our corporate partners and individuals who support our mission by sponsoring and attending this event." Charity's Ball received generous support from title sponsors PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP and PRWT.
